55 Nigerians stole 1.3 trillion naira under Jonathan

Fifty five people stole N1.3trillion under former president Goodluck Jonathan's administration the Presidential Advisory Commitee Against Corruption (PACAC) has said.

The committee said Jonathan's tolerance on curruption closed his eyes to graft while his administration grew worse than his predicessors in tackling official sleeze.

In its report of activities from august 2015 to july 2016 presented to civil society organizations (CSOs) by its Executive Secretary Prof Bo
laji Owasanoye, PACAC said corruption brought Nigeria to her knees under Jonathan.

For example, it is widly believed that insecurity escalated because of the massive embezzlement of $2 billione through the office of the National Security Adviser under the leadership of Col Sambo Dasuki who diverted the money appropriatad to fight insurgency.

Multi-billion dollers were also embezzled from the petroleum industry while Jonathan blinked his eyes off it.
At the same time other vices spread like virus import duty waivers, financial recklessness, a profligate legislature, currupt judiciary etc.

Jonathan's legendary comment that stealing is no curruption underscored his perspective on curruption.

PACAC said using world bank rates N
1.3trillion one-third of it can be used to provid 635.18 killometre of roads built 36 ultra-modern hospitals in each state built and furnish 183 schools, educate 3,974 pupil from primary to tetiary level and built 20,062 units of two-bedroom houses.

PACAC said curruption is Nigeria's greatest challenge. Prof Owasanoye said  due to curruption a few Nigerians are richer than thier states.

PACAC has decided a plea Bargain Manual, which mandates custodial sentence for all those who plead guilty of looting after returning all they stole.
